Inspired by the visual ruptures of Picasso, PICASSa explores disaffection, the trace of the ephemeral, and the search for new forms of expression through an exercise in decontextualization and transformation of museum space. Closely connected to Cubism, the piece invites audiences to rethink reality from multiple perspectives, establishing new relationships between body, imagination, and spectator in a creative journey beyond conventional theatrical boundaries.
The Picasso Museum in Barcelona becomes the channel that connects the different scenes of a visual encyclopedia that acts as a guide, leading both artist and audience through diverse creative landscapes and offering a starting point for a journey of self-exploration.
As the author of the piece, Lorena Nogal (Barcelona, 1984) is an artist and creator who trained as a dancer at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and began her career with IT Dansa. Since 2008, she has been a key figure in the artistic team of La Veronal, both as a choreographer and dancer, working closely with Marcos Morau. In 2024, she was awarded the National Dance Award for Best Performer by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and received the Best Female Performer Award at the Talía Awards, granted by the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts. In 2018, she founded the project HOTEL Col·lectiu Escènic with the aim of generating creative intersections to explore the worlds of other artists.
Creative factories and museums in Barcelona once again take part in a shared experience. A series of museum and heritage spaces in the city become stages for artists in residence from the city’s creative centers, who engage in dialogue with the artistic, historical, and ethnographic collections preserved in each venue.
