Workshop

Anna Chirescu

Oct. 22, 2025

About

Anna Chirescu trained in classical dance at the CNR of Paris and in contemporary dance at the CNSMD of Paris, before continuing her studies at the University of California, Irvine. She also holds degrees in Modern Literature and Humanities from Paris 3 Sorbonne and Sciences Po Paris.

Since 2005, she has performed with numerous choreographers, including Jean-Claude Gallotta, Daniel Larrieu, Ashley Chen, and Dominique Jégou. From 2013 to 2020, she was part of the CNDC d’Angers under Robert Swinston, touring internationally with Merce Cunningham’s repertoire.

In 2017, she co-founded the company Lava with visual artist Grégoire Schaller. Together, they created Dirty Dancers, Ordeal by Water, and more recently VACA (2022) and KATA (2025), her first solo. Her work explores the body as a site of memory and politics, blending dance, voice, narrative, and visual arts.

She collaborates with artists across disciplines, such as François Chaignaud, Théo Mercier, and Ensemble Intercontemporain, and teaches regularly at leading institutions. In 2024 and 2025, she received the “Revelation in Choreography” award from the French Critics’ Syndicate and support from the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
Anna Chirescu will join the festival to present her piece Ordeal by Water and will also lead a workshop for students at the School of Ballet.
